SMITE’s last patch of the season is finally here on PC with a console launch planned for next week. 4.25: Warden of the Underworld adds Cerberus, a new Ragnarok event and a few buffs, but no major balance changes. For the full patch notes, head over to the official SMITE site here or read our roundup below.
This is the last patch of the season, so please note that The Odyssey and all the Adventure bundles will go away with the patch, meaning limited skin Frostfire Ullr and all the limited Adventure skins will no longer be available. The season ticket will also end once the Season 5 patch goes live, meaning you will no longer be able to work toward any of the rewards, and the split pass bundles, which are still available on the store and each include a limited skin, will be gone.
The biggest addition is Cerberus, who was finally revealed at the Hi-Rez Expo, or HRX. Cerberus is a walking anti-heal with his passive, has plenty of lockdown, and his Stygian Torment ultimate is Ares’ ult on crack. He looks wild in videos, but we’ll see how performs when he gets into players’ hands.
Passive – Spirit of Death
Any time an Enemy God within 40 of Cerberus is healed, Cerberus receives 40% of the heal, and the Enemy’s heal is reduced by 20%.
Cerberus’s snake tail spits venom that passes through and damages Enemies. If Cerberus’s dog heads are Alert, they then also spit venom when the ability is fired. Each head is alerted upon hitting an Enemy with a Basic Attack, and all are alerted after Ghastly Breath. Each projectile that hits the same target deals 20% less damage, but hitting an Enemy with all 4 Stuns them.
Each of Cerberus’s 3 heads releases a cone of noxious breath in front of them, damaging all enemies in range 7 times over 2.4s and reducing their Protections up to three times. Enemies in the center of his breath are also Slowed up to three times. This attack immediately puts all three of Cerberus’s heads on Alert for Paralyzing Spit.
Cerberus leaps a short distance forward, dealing damage on impact and severing the souls of Enemies. These souls will not block Cerberus’s attacks, and killing the souls heals Cerberus.
Cerberus’s haunting wail summons below him the souls of the damned, which then lift all Enemy Gods into the air while stretching the link between their bodies and souls, Damaging them. A short time later, Cerberus uses this link to pull the Enemies to him.
With Cerberus’ launch comes a new Ragnarok event. Similar to the Adventure events, each patch will include a bundle. Each bundle includes two skins and additional items like loading cards or recall effects. There will be three bundles total, and players who purchase all three will be rewarded with a limited Hades skin. Players will also receive a key with each bundle, which can be used to open an Awesome Chest (gives a guaranteed exclusive skin).
The first bundle costs 750 gems and includes:
- Brimstone Beast Camazotz Skin
- Brimstone Demon Thor Skin
- Ragnarok Frame Loading Frame
- Ragnarok Recall Skin
- Molten Key (can be used to open an Awesome Chest after completing three quests. Also note that players who plan to purchase all three bundles do not need to do quests to receive their Awesome Chests).
The first round of quests is as follows:
- The Battle Begins
- Deal 20,000 Damage
- Surtr’s Wrath
- Slay 1 Jungle Boss
- The Bloody Battle
- Get 30 kills/assists
To see the Ragnarok event explained in more detail, SMITE Scrub devoted a full article to it here.
Aside from the event skins and Cerberus’ recolor, patch 4.25 added two other exclusive skins. Sweet Tooth Sol has been added to the new 60-item Bubble-Licious chest, which can be rolled for 300 gems. Grove Keeper Xing Tian has been added to the Nature’s Wrath chest, which can be rolled for 400 gems. Both skins have their own, unique global emotes.
Balance changes are very light. Hi-Rez is saving the big balance changes for Season 5. Instead, they have buffed six characters. There are no god nerfs and no changes to items or anything except gods.
Anhur had a buff so his Impale clear can no longer be blocked by standing in front of it:
- Targets who are impaled will now deal Impales damage to targets they pass through.
Chaac’s Rain Dance now applies an attack speed slow (again):
- Increased Damage from 80/125/170/215/260 to 80/135/190/245/300
Terra’s slow amount and slow duration has been increased on Monolith:
- Increased slow from Shattering Monolith from 30% to 40%
- Increased slow duration from Shattering Monolith from 1.5s to 2s
- Decreased Mana Cost from 75/80/85/90/95 to 60/65/70/75/80
- This ability no longer takes away Zhong Kui’s book basic attacks while on cooldown.
That concludes Season 4’s patches. Season 5 brings a new map and, hopefully, a fresh feel to SMITE.Follow @SMITEScrub
