With the SMITE Pro League’s move to Mixer for Season 5, spectators are eagerly awaiting redeemable chest codes in place of automated Twitch drops deposited into their accounts. The first day of the North American and European leagues has already commenced, and we got quite the stash of loot thanks to the code drops. We can also let you know how it goes and what to look for.
The bad news
First of all, as of this writing, we regret to tell you there is no way to redeem codes outside of the SMITE client, and the codes expire quickly after their time of posting (20-30 minutes). So, unless you’re near your SMITE device at the time of posting, whether that be a PC, Xbox One or PlayStation 4, you won’t be able to take advantage of the free codes.
What to look for
The SMITE chest codes are posted by a Hi-Rez employee in a highly visible place on the top right side of the Mixer chat bar. On default Mixer settings, the codes are shown in a bright blue box which is a different color than the rest of chat. They are often posted after something exciting happens in the SPL match, such as first blood, a Fire Giant kill or a deicide, but not always.
What’s in the chests?
So far, we’ve gotten three types of chests: 2018 Odyssey Chests, Blue Mixer Chests and White Mixer Chests. You’ll recognize Odyssey Chests as one of SMITE’s standby chests, containing most of the cosmetics in the game.
The newer chests are the White Mixer Chests and Blue Mixer Chests. Think of these as better versions of the old Twitch chests. From what we’ve seen so far, they give a chance at fantasy points or gems, which in our experience means usually fantasy points. Blue Mixer Chests appear to be the better version of the two, yielding us up to 500 fantasy points in one roll. One of us even got 400 gems. White Mixer Chests give lesser amounts from what we’ve seen so far, and we usually got 25 FP in those. Of course, the 2018 SMITE season ticket now goes all the way up to 80,000 fantasy points, so it makes sense for the values to be increased.
How to redeem SMITE codes
We’ll give you the quick tutorial on redeeming SMITE codes just in case. For PC players, it’s fairly self-explanatory since there is only one way to redeem codes. However, there can be confusion on console because codes can also be redeemed through the Xbox One and PlayStation digital stores in addition to within the SMITE client. So just to clarify, you need to be in the SMITE client.
Once you’re there, navigate to Store and then Redeem Code. Punch it in and voila. Enjoy your 25 FP (just kidding; we’re sure you’ll get something great)!
Pro tip: If you’re on PC and in a match when the code goes live, you can also type /claimpromotion followed by the code into the chat box.
Hi-Rez has also stated they are hoping to automate the process eventually, so perhaps this all won’t be necessary once SMITE acclimates into Mixer.Follow @SMITEScrub
