Chernobog, the first god in SMITE’s new Slavic pantheon, was announced to be arriving in patch 5.8 (PC is on 5.7 right now). Players were already excited to get their hands on the demonic-looking character, and Hi-Rez’s artistic interpretation of the little-depicted god went over well with fans. Today, SMITE players are more excited than ever thanks to news that has come to light: Doug Cockle, the voice of Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher series, will voice Chernobog.

With The Witcher 3’s success both financially and critically, Cockle’s Geralt has become one of the most recognizable voices in gaming. The first two Witcher games were acclaimed as well, but the third game’s reception and sales catapulted everything Witcher to a new level.
Cockle seems excited about his new role as Chernobog; the actor tweeted out the news with the joke that “I AM A GOD…no really,” saying that “@SMITEGame has some awesome stuff planned.”
In a Twitter conversation between Cockle and HiRezTina, SMITE’s “Voice Pack Guru,” Cockle thanked Tina for getting him involved and allowing him “to play with the writing a bit.” Tina replied that “Chernobog is gonna be fire!” When asked by a user, “How edgy are the voice lines?”, Cockle replied, “Serrated.”
All this banter only has us more excited to hear Cockle’s voice in action when Chernobog launches with SMITE patch 5.8.
